Phoenix Children's Hospital "Annual Holiday Toy Drive"
Phoenix Children’s Hospital is a 331-bed children’s general facility with 13,834 admissions in the most recent year reported. It performed 5,201 annual inpatient and 10,223 outpatient surgeries. With the intention of providing a Christmas present to less fortunate children, Thespian members donated items to Toys for Tots. The HYSA Thespian Society participated in this service project three times.
Kyrene De Cielo Elementary School "Read Naturally"
Read Naturally is a computer based reading program designed to support early readers by improving their fluency, accuracy and comprehension. We are currently serving 32 students in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades with this program. Recently, there have had many success stories with students reaching their reading goals. Part of that success comes from being able to foster a love of reading by providing the children with appropriate books that they enjoy. The HYSA Thespian Society has organized book drives to help young readers achieve success in reading.
Pueblo Elementary School Library
The HYSA Thespians organized a school-wide book drive for the Pueblo Elementary School Library, which was in need of new books for the school library.
Sojourner Center
The HYSA Thespian Society organized a drive among its membership to donate to the Sojourner Center, a center dedicated to stopping domestic violence, "one life at a time."
BookPALS
In 2014, the HYSA Thespian Society launched its ongoing outreach service project in connection with BookPALS, a Screen Actors Guild program which promotes literacy in elementary schools.
